Cañete is a small city located 144 km south of Lima. The climate is very pleasant, typically hot in the summer with an average of about 90°F (32°C) and mild in the winter as temperatures stay around 78°F (26°C). 50% of the population is poor families, working as agricultural labourers in the nearby valley. Issues like inadequate housing, overcrowding, and lack of drinking water aggravate their living situation.

Chalice Cañete Sponsor Site is under direction of the Sisters of St. Ann. The children and seniors come from very poor families and are affected by malnutrition. Often, children cannot attend school regularly because their parents cannot afford the school fees, or books and supplies their children require. The Sponsor Site promotes human dignity by showing families how to become self-sufficient.

The Chalice Sponsorship Program in Canete, Peru helps children, seniors, and families cover their basic needs of nutrition, education, health, hygiene, and clothes. They receive clothing and baskets of food staples, including rice, sugar, flour, noodles, milk, oil, oats, tuna, etc. The families are very grateful for this support because they sometimes do not have the basics in order to cook good, healthy, nutritious meals. The Site also offers lunch for children and seniors in their Soup Kitchen. This way they are confident that sponsored children and their siblings have at least one nutritious meal a day.
