In Haiti, ongoing political instability, gang violence, lack of employment, and disruptions to basic services have contributed to significant rising costs and a lack of access to adequate, nutritious food. Families throughout Haiti face a greater risk of food insecurity and compromised nutrition — many families with children even having to resort to drastic measures, such as skipping or downsizing meals.
Through this one-year nutrition support program, 1,192 sponsored children and their families, and 18 site staff, will receive quarterly payments to purchase essential food items.
Program objectives include:
- Families successfully purchase staple food items following each quarterly transfer
- Families purchase basic food supplies as needed — not just in a single purchase
- Families participate in Chalice Family Circle purchasing groups and bulk-buying activities for maximum access to food
- Follow-up with beneficiary households to confirm program effectiveness for meeting their nutritional needs
The Chalice site director will oversee program implementation, beneficiary verification, monitoring, reporting, and financial accountability for the project, along with Chalice field workers and Family Circle leaders.
With this support, families will be able to access food more consistently, reduce immediate hunger, and alleviate financial pressure during this challenging time.
