About Luis Amigo ...
Luis Amigo Sponsor Site is located in the small town of Champerico (nearly 8000 people, 2012) in southwest Guatemala. It is a popular vacation spot for Guatemalans from the region. This picturesque beach town was founded in 1872 and the paved road to Retalhuleu makes it one of the most important ports on the Pacific Coast side, though ships must anchor about 1 mile (1.6 km) offshore. The port handles mostly coffee, timber, and sugar, and is the home base of Guatemala’s shrimp fleet.
This Chalice Sponsor Site is administered by Terciaria Capuchina Sisters who are responsible for the operation of a Nutrition Centre for young babies who suffer from malnutrition. The Site also extends help and support to young sponsored children and their immediate family after they leave the Centre. Benefits are delivered to families each month, including food, vitamins, drugs, medical assistance, etc. The Site provides help to hundreds of students with their school expenses and other needs of their families. The Site also supports several elderly persons who reside in the Seniors Centre. These seniors have been abandoned by their family and have no government pension or other resources. They are given a place to live, food, clothing, and medical care.
Mission - Luis Amigo
The Luis Amigo Sponsor Site Director once shared that "Chalice has allowed us to be promoters of a better future for many families in Guatemala. This has happened not only by offering bread to eat, but the bread of Jesus as well."
