About PENNT ...
Cochabamba is the 4th largest city in Bolivia, with a population of just over 1 million people. One of the biggest challenges Bolivia faces is that more than 800,000 children between the ages of 5 and 15, work as street vendors, shoe polishers, or in hotels, restaurants, and markets. It is estimated that about 200,000 of these child workers are in Cochabamba. For these children, if it is too much to keep up with both work and school, they drop out of school.
Chalice’s PENNT Sponsor Site in Cochabamba, Bolivia helps children who are working on the streets trying to earn enough income to remain in school, as well as help support their families. In response to the high school dropout rate, the Site has a Schooling Programme that helps children, age 7 to 14 years old, in four locations throughout the city. The Site’s goal is to improve the quality of life of the sponsored children through the implementation of prevention, attention, and protection activities. In addition, this Site promotes and consolidates spaces of holistic formation for children who are at risk of abandoning school.
