Dmytro is one of six children in his family. He has two brothers and three sisters. He lives with his parents and siblings in a two-room brick house that has wooden floors and a slate roof, in Roznoshyntsi, western Ukraine. Dmytro is in grade four and his best subject is Math. His favourite activities are fishing, singing, and playing soccer. He would like to become a builder when he grows up. His parents work hard on a farm to provide for their family. Their house does not have running water or latrine facilities. Many children in Ukraine live in extreme poverty, with no hope of a productive future. Many workers, including professionals, are caught in the economic struggles of the country, and often go for weeks without pay. Sponsorship provides children with educational support, improved nutrition, medical care and treatment, clothing and footwear, and other basic necessities.
