Managed by Bless the Children Foundation, Inc. under a board headed by Rev. Fr. Florentino, Tondo is a community based service providing care to disadvantaged children who belong to families that are classfied as Survival Level (monthly income below the poverty line) and live in unsafe and insecure areas. Many members of these families cannot read or write and frequently suffer illnesses but cannot access health services. Most of these families do not earn enough to provide for their children's most basic needs, let alone provide for other needs like education. Most live in very depressed areas and dwellings - some in houses no bigger than two Balikbayan boxes (domestic shipping crates) put side by side. Thanks to the Chalice Sponsorship Programme remarkable improvements are evident in children's overall health and well-being.
Sponsorship in Tondo
When a child is sponsored, the Chalice Sponsorship Program provides the opportunity for children to be in school, have nutritious food, access to medical/dental care and proper clothing. Beyond the material provisions, the Site focuses on teaching values and spiritual formation to the children, parents and staff. Summer brings fun for the children as they learn to dance, play different musical instruments, and enjoy themselves in the arts and crafts workshops. Children in need of additional support attend Math and English enrichment classes to prepare them for their next level. The Site conducts Awareness Programs like prevention of violence against women and children, children's rights, hygiene, and parenting skills. Skills training is also made available to interested parents. Special activities like father and child, mother and child, and family day are held to foster family bonding.
