Sergio spreads kindness - thankful for Chalice Child SponsorshipSergio was one of the first children who joined the Itauguá Chalice Sponsorship Program. He is the son of a single mother, and the youngest of four brothers. The Chalice child sponsorship program was a great help to Sergio and his family; it gave him the opportunity to continue his studies with the necessary supplies, medical care and other benefits offered by the program. His mother earned so little income in her job as a cleaner that she could not provide Sergio's basic needs.

With this encouragement, the family has overcome many difficulties, uniting strength and creativity: they learned how to raise chickens for sale, and all the children, including Sergio, in their spare time, learned how to care for and feed the animals. The mother, who was not able to study at the time, was then able to take a psychology course, with the dream of obtaining a college degree.

Sergio has always been a remarkable student with excellent grades, and is currently in his final year as a Health Technician. He dreams of going to college to pursue a career in medicine. He is a young man who is really attentive to the needs of others, especially with regard to health. On the weekends, he volunteers at the Paraguayan Red Cross, and at the Mother and Child Hospital; he has also volunteered in campaigns of health care and awareness of the Ministry of Public Health, and has attended training courses in order to prepare himself for college.

As a quiet young man of a gentle nature, he visits sick people in his neighbourhood who are in need of any attention that he can give, such as taking blood pressure, delivering medications, and healing minor injuries.
