Cecilia Becomes a Finance Wiz

Nerves have a way of fogging up your brain and making you forget things like your bank password. Cecilia, a lover mother of three, has figured out a strategy. She repeats her password, and that way, she always remembers.  

Before encountering Chalice and its sponsors, Cecilia never thought a bank card was in reach. 

“…I used to think that cards were for people with a lot of money,” Cecilia wrote from where she lives near our Chiclayo site in Peru. Receiving the card was a “beautiful experience”, she said, even though her hands shook on the way to get it. Later, she and her husband shared joyous laughter about the whole situation! 

Cecilia is the coordinator of her local family circle, where she’s a leader and supportive resource to her fellow parents and neighbours.

The Radiance of Peruvian cuisine: Papa rellena

Have you ever wondered where potatoes come from? Well, today we’re answering that question. Potatoes are originally from Peru, and there are over 4000 potato varieties in different colors and shapes.

Popular and rich in nutrients, potatoes are part of almost every Peruvian dish. Today, we’re bringing you a delicious Peruvian recipe called “Papa rellena”, or stuffed potatoes. It’s is prepared with white potatoes. It’s an extraordinary dish to share with your family and remember the regions you support!

Hard work pays off: Juan has a bright future

“I feel blessed to participate in the sponsorship program,” says 20-year-old Juan who is currently studying medicine in university. He has encountered many obstacles in his young life, but thanks to his sponsor and other Chalice supports he is very close to realizing his dream of working in the medical field.

Growing up in Chiclayo, Peru, his humble and hardworking family struggled to make ends meet. When he was eight, his father passed away, leaving them all devastated. But the following year things started to turn around when Juan was admitted into the sponsorship program and chosen by a sponsor. Slowly but surely their lives steadily improved.
