Project Location: Shchyrets Village, Lviv, Ukraine
Project Type: Health & Hygiene
Project Code: ULL0820
Background: Lviv sponsor site became an independent site from the Pochaiv site in 2019, and serves more than 600 children and their families.
While the majority of the families live in the city of Lviv, some live on small subsistence farms in rural villages outside the city, including Shchyrets. Low wages, high unemployment, and chronic illness are significant daily challenges for sponsored families.
More than 500 students (160 sponsored), teachers and staff at Shchryrets Village School are using dilapidated washrooms. All of the fixtures are indadequate and the floors, walls and ceilings need significant repairs. The current facilities are unsafe and very uncomfortable. The school has been receiving insufficient funding due to high levels of inflation, rising prices and ongoing military operation in the country. There are very few funds being allocated for repairs, which is why the school and local community have requested the support of Chalice.
Project Objectives: The Lviv site plans a complete overhaul of the facilities. They will construct separate washrooms for boys, girls, and an accessible washroom. They will renovate the walls, ceiling and floors, and install brand new toilets, sinks and doors. They will also upgrade the lighting.
On top of the 160 sponsored children, more than 500 students, staff and parents will greatly benefit from safe, dry, clean washrooms. The children will be better able to work on their lessons and the staff can be more comfortable and dignified as they do their valuable work.
Please note that any donations that exceed the request will be used to fund other Community Projects/Programs that may arise.
