Fires that occurred in three separate communities in Tondo, the Philippines during the month of April have left over a thousand families homeless and in desperate need of help.
The first fire, caused by a lighted candle, affected 40 families and left three sponsored families homeless. The second fire, resulting from an overheated fan, affected 1055 families, including 16 sponsored families. The third fire, caused by a faulty electrical cable, destroyed the homes of 20 families and left one of our sponsored families with a damaged roof and loss of all the contents of their home.
A private foundation has agreed to provide funds to replace the homes and the affected families are temporarily being housed in evacuation centers assigned by the Department of Social Welfare and Development. The families have received relief through food and used clothing donations.
The parents in these families have not been working since the quarantine started in March, but even without the added impact of the current pandemic, the families wouldn't have money saved for house reconstruction or be able to replace basic but essential household items.
The sponsor site director is asking Chalice for $8,682 (an average of $434 per family) to replace basic housing supplies for the 20 sponsored families who lost everything they owned.
Funding Request: $8,682.00
Critical Need: PTM0520
Please note that any donations that exceed the request will be used to fund other critical need emergencies that may arise.
