The three boys each have Chalice sponsors who have been a support to them during their difficult young lives. They had been living with their mother, Blasida, but she passed away. Blasida entrusted her five children to her sister, Patricia, who is a live-in care worker for an elderly neighbour. Fortunately, the elderly neighbour welcomed the five children to live in the home as well.
With great sacrifice, Patricia built a house for her new family of six. But a storm at the end of March 2021 destroyed its roof. Despite their efforts to rescue the interior with tents, the ensuing daily rains destroyed the furniture. The waters have carried away some of the brickwork as well.
Building the house had already been a significant achievement for Patricia in her difficult circumstances. These losses are beyond her ability to repair and replace.
The Dominica sponsor site has requested $2,166.84 CAD to repair the home. This will encompass the metal, cement, brick and other building materials, as well as the cost of the labour to complete the reconstruction. The support will give Patricia and her five nieces and nephews a safe home where they can look ahead to a brighter future.
