Sameera is in grade eight and lives with her parents near our Nellore site in India.
Her father supports the family finding daily wage work. Her mother suffered a stroke and is unable to take employment.
As an infant, Sameera showed signs of hearing loss. By the time she was two, she was diagnosed with hearing impairment in both ears. She underwent a cochlear implant a year later, when she was three years old. Ever since, Sameera has used a binaural hearing aid.
Sameera is cheerful and participates well in her classes. But her devices are in disrepair, and she’s overdue for a new pair. The high cost of replacements is prohibitive for her parents.
The Sisters who run Chalice’s Nellore sponsor site have requested the cost of the new hearing aids - $1,404.17 CAD, on behalf of Sameera and her family. These devices will enable her fully to engage in her classes, communicate with her teachers and peers, and remain safe while moving around in her community.
