Food fuels life. Over 795 million people, however, don’t have enough to eat- that's about one in nine people. Most of the world's hungry people live in developing countries, where food is scarce due to drought and economic disparity.
Children are especially vulnerable to malnutrition and under nutrition. Not having enough to eat has a dire impact on physical and cognitive development, and hungry children can’t learn or focus in class.
Our Chalice Children Nutrition Program aims to support at-risk children and elders in the developing world.
Malnutrition and undernutrition looks different in each area, and needs are unique. Our nutrition program is flexible, and aims to cater to these diverse needs.
Beneficiaries may receive school lunches in an elementary school with underfed children, or three meals a day for children at an orphanage. Examples of programs include:
- Soup kitchens
- School feeding programs
- Community meals
- Distribution of food baskets
- Provision of vitamins and nutritional supplements
Our nutrition program does more than feed the hungry- it educates and uplifts. Feeding programs are often accompanied by an educational component. Nutritionists visit our sites and nearby schools to educate families on proper nutrition and healthy eating.
This program is complemented by working with local hospitals, clinics and/or health services, businesses, government, and other NGO’s. It’s also frequently combined with our other initiatives such as our Kenya and Tanzania School Farming Project, where the crops grown in gardens supplement school feeding programs.
Beneficiaries include sponsored and non-sponsored children, elders, parents, and guardians. Community-based organizations (schools, orphanages, groups), also benefit from this program.
How can I help?

- Make a one-time or monthly donation
- Purchase an item from our Gift Catalogue
- Host a fundraising event with your family, friends, and community
- Involve students with our “Chalice in Schools Program”
- Involve your parish by setting up a “Pocket Change for Change” collection can
