In March 2024, 11-year-old Ronah’s parents noticed that she was dragging her right leg. They brought her to the doctor, and her right arm and right cheek were also numb. Her right eye drooped. Her doctor admitted her immediately.

Her team ran multiple diagnostic tests and scans. The CT revealed tuberculoma, a lump caused by tuberculosis. Further scans helped the team determine the location, extent, and size of the abscess. While in the hospital, Ronah experienced a high fever and a low heart rate.

She stayed in the hospital for about two weeks and went home with a two-month prescription to treat her tuberculosis.

Ronah’s emergency incurred many out-of-pocket expenses, including her tests, inpatient and outpatient medicine, and medical equipment like heart-rate monitors. The total comes to $2,660.42 CAD.

Ronald, Ronah’s father, earns minimum wage as a mechanic. Her Chalice sponsor is already a significant support for the family of six, which includes a new baby. These medical bills are more than Ronald earns in six months. The Tondo site staff have therefore requested the full amount on Ronah and her family’s behalf.
